Need help?

The name says it all, they are shakes with a high protein content. It is a powder that is mixed with water or milk. Everyone needs proteins for the body to function properly. Athletes even need extra proteins to recover muscles and to build extra muscle mass. You take in proteins from your diet every day. But if not enough proteins are absorbed from the diet, it is wise to consume a protein shake.

The recommended daily protein intake from normal food is 0.8 - 1 gram of protein per kg of body weight. However, this is not accurate because age and how active you are have a significant influence on this. Below you will find an overview to calculate your protein needs! If you do not meet the recommended protein intake? Then we recommend a protein shake.

Grams of protein per KG of body weight:
Non-athletes: 0.8 g
Athletes: 1.5 g
Strength athletes: 1.8 g
Dropouts: 1.8 g
Vegetarian/vegan: 1.3 g
Pregnancy: 0.9 g
Breastfeeding: 1 g
Elderly (70+): 1g

Example: A strength athlete with a body weight of 70kg needs 70 x 1.8 grams of protein = 126 grams of protein per day.

  1. Whey Protein: Suitable for most people who want to support muscle recovery and growth. It is a versatile, quickly absorbable protein source, ideal after a workout.
  2. Whey Isolate: Perfect for people who want a higher protein concentration without a lot of carbohydrates or fat. It is ideal for those who want to increase their protein intake without extra calories, or for people with lactose intolerance (as it contains less lactose).
  3. Clear Whey Isolate: Ideal for those who prefer a lighter, refreshing shake with a fruity flavor. This is a good option for anyone looking for a fast-absorbing protein source without the creaminess of traditional shakes.
  4. Vegan Protein: Suitable for vegans or people with lactose intolerance. This shake provides a plant-based protein source, such as pea or rice protein, and is perfect for those who do not consume animal products.

What are proteins?

Proteins are a combination of large and complex molecules that play an important role in the functioning of the body. They serve as structural components of cells, enzymes, hormones, and other molecules. Proteins consist of long chains of amino acids that are responsible for the development of muscles and bone density, and they also help regulate hormones and enzymes. Because proteins are broken down during digestion, they also provide energy for the body.

Where are proteins found?

Proteins are essential: without them, your cells and organs would not function properly. They are abundant in foods such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, legumes, nuts, and seeds. Additionally, proteins are available in various forms – in powder form, as bars, or as drinks, each of which can be used as a supplement to your diet.

Why do we need proteins?

Everyone needs proteins, mainly because it is an essential nutrient. Your body relies on a regular supply of proteins from food sources to meet daily needs. In this process, the protein undergoes a cycle of synthesis. In other words, your body continuously breaks it down, uses it, and excretes it, which emphasizes how important it is to get enough proteins.
As important macronutrients for building muscle mass, they play a role in almost every process in your body. For example, proteins keep your immune system healthy. The immune system uses specialized proteins called antibodies or immunoglobulins to protect itself against infections. Antibodies are specifically produced and released in response to harmful pathogens that enter the body – such as bacteria and viruses.
Proteins also help with the repair of tissues. Amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, assist in the growth and maintenance of tissues in all parts of the body, including:

  • blood vessels
  • bottom
  • muscles
  • tendons
  • skin
  • hair and nails

Therefore, during certain important life stages, such as childhood and during pregnancy, adequate protein intake is especially important for maintaining healthy growth. Proteins also aid in the faster recovery of tissues and cells in case of injury or illness.
